Brighter, more livelier colors

Opium Tales Allie

Last night on my Instagram account (update – I’ve since deleted that time waster), I was musing about how hard it is to write lyrics when everything is going well. What am I supposed to write about? I got a great relationship with my wife. My son is doing great. And my net worth rose significantly so far this year due to smart moves over the past few years.

Yeah, that would make a really interesting song.

I compounded those thoughts while listening to Mazzy Star. And joked that Mazzy Star makes Lana del Rey sound like Aqua. Kudos if you get all three references.

Yes, I love music. Even if it’s not Romantic era Classical or Dad Metal.

Not to brag of course. We had some really bad years in the past. I used to live in a fucking car for Pete’s sake. My wife had it even worse. That’s why we’re so grateful to be in the middle class now.

Anyways, you’re going to see a change in my art direction. I’m starting to like brighter, livelier colors. Not everything will have a black or moonglow background.

I changed the header image to reflect that. Both backgrounds – Roxy and Allie in the sea. Main colors – really watered down French Ultramarine (Daniel Smith) for the sky and Turquoise de Phthalo (Sennelier) for the water.

I keep the backgrounds pretty simple. The girls are the emphasis. The backgrounds are only there because the girls are supposed to be somewhere.

I also feel like I’ve found a winning color combination. If you look at the girls, they really pop forward. I love that!

So you might be seeing a lot of this from me in the near future.

Anyways, I’m going to continue watching Mad Men s4 while waiting for the paint to dry. I don’t use a hair dryer. If you want to, more power to you. I just think that’s cheating.
