Back to happier colors, the mathematical definition of work, and drinking too much

Last night, I played some online games with my son and my best friend from grad school. Yes, I did go to grad school. Dropped out, but I did show up for a little bit.

To this day, I have five closest friends and a few more in my inner circle. My five closest friends are my best friend from high school, my best friend from college, and my best friend from grad school, and Allie and Roxy.

So I pretty much keep friends forever. Unless they turn into soul suckers, in which I blame myself for filtering poorly. It’s usually I failed to see glaring red flags.

Anyways, I’m going off on a tangent. About the games. We play some online games together once a week if possible because the three of us are now in different states.

I got carried away drinking. I had some Glenlivet 18 and poured myself a nice glass. Well, halfway thru the games, I had already finished the glass and poured myself another glass.

Keep in mind that Scotch is a liquor. That’s a lot of alcohol, especially considering I’m a skinny guy.

I started slurring my words and ended up with pretty broken sleep. ‘Twas a great night, don’t get me wrong, but I paid for it the next morning.

So this weekend, I’ll stay sober and recover.

Yuck.

I did lift earlier today. Deadlifts, tons of stretching, and one set of squats just to finish up.

Back to Glenlivet 18, Scotch is weird. You can have strong opinions about different Scotches, disagree, and still be right. Because it really comes down to taste.

Glenlivet 18 isn’t a bad Scotch by any means. It’s just that I’ve developed a taste for peatier Scotches. I’d rather have Ardbeg or Laphroaig. Personal taste.

The mathematical definition of work

I can’t stand spinning my wheels.

Earlier today, I tried drawing a more complicated pose of Roxy. First, I use pencil. Then I ink it. Then I paint.

Well, the drawing simply didn’t meet my standards. And since I don’t like spinning my wheels, I erased it and I’m now working on an easier pose.

I prefer the mathematical definition of work. If you spend 8 hours trying to move a boulder and you didn’t even move it an inch, you didn’t do any work.

“But I was trying hard.”

That’s nice, Abe Froman. But give me the mathematical definition of work over the job definition of work.

If you didn’t accomplish shit, you didn’t work. With math, work is measured by measuring how much you actually did. Not by how much effort you put into it.

So if I’m spinning my wheels for an hour and coming up with nothing good enough to sell, as far as I’m concerned, I didn’t do any work. And I get pissed off.

Well, I usually see it ahead of time and abort, then go on to the next thing. Nothing I hate more than wasting time.

I’ll someday go back to that pose. It’s a good pose. Not Roxy’s fault by any means. But tonight, nope.

Back to happier colors

I haven’t posted any pictures of my work here in awhile. That’s because I can’t stand my photographs of my work.

For one, my work is pretty big. In the pics, it looks small. That irks me.

I’m actually hiring a girl next month to professionally photograph my works. For one, I’ll use them for prints. And, I’m finally doing my first coffee table book. It’s about time.

She’s good. I’ve seen her photography. She does product photography, meaning she photographs products. Like for instance, you’re a professional chef and you’re making a cookbook. Well, she’ll shoot your works and her shots are good enough to put into a Barnes and Noble cookbook.

I went in a grey period for months and recently just got out of it. My work is a reflection of my soul so it’s pretty obvious I went thru a dreary period.

Recently though, I’ve been seeing the light at the end of the tunnel again. Which led to happier colors.

In chronological order, you could see the last grey one. I’m skipping the first happy one as it’s a bit too racy for the general public. I’ll probably only offer that one to special buyers. But the next two are also considerably happier than my grey period.

I’ll write about what happened later. Probably a year or two from now. It’s a little bit too personal and I also don’t want to dox myself.

I just finished a lovely one of Allie and a seagull earlier today. That, I still have to photograph.

For now though, we’re either putting in Big Trouble in Little China or Ladyhawke. The Mrs and I both love everything 80s. One of these days, I’ll do a long blog post about 80s guilty pleasure movies and cartoons. I might even write about 80s pop music too.
